"Spinning in the Fire"

by Ricky Charles Dodson

Spinning in the fire, like a top,

a small glowing bubble appears.

My eyes sink into the glow.

My mind is consumed with this wonder

and the heat from her flame warms my soul.

Her delicate fingers twirl the cane

with the precision of a fine machine.

Her eyes shine with the echo of the flame before her.

She is indeed a master of her order.

Her attention is precise and her vision is pure,

as she applies dots of color in a pattern only she can see.

The spinning bubble of glass blurs to my eyes.

A small wonder appearing between her hands.

My mind focused on her every move.

Her silence speaks loudly with the talent she possesses

and she does not blink, or nod.

This is what she does. This is what she is.

And now that I have seen it I know

I will never look upon glass art the same way again.
